Role Description

TechPods is a UK-based technology co-sourcing company with offices in Bath, England and Sofia, Bulgaria. Unlike traditional IT outsourcing companies, TechPods' fully transparent model enables companies to scale quicker, while mitigating risk and reducing costs. We strongly believe that traditional outsourcing is dead, and the key to long-term success lies within partnering, as opposed to vendoring.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a small, collaborative team at a UK-based PropTech company developing innovative software solutions for the property and lettings market. You’ll help build a brand-new platform from the ground up, using modern technologies to transform the rental industry through automation. This is an opportunity to make a real impact on the product, contribute to architectural decisions, and take ownership of features from design through to production.
The team values clean code, collaboration and continuous improvement. Every change goes through a feature branch and pull request, with work tracked in Jira and commits following Conventional Commits. AI-assisted development is also part of the everyday workflow, supported by clear engineering standards.

What you’ll do

  • Build end-to-end product features: Design PostgreSQL schemas, implement domain logic and APIs, and develop the React screens that bring features to life.
  • Design maintainable architecture: Work within a modular monolith, maintain clear module boundaries, and contribute to architectural decisions and documented Architecture Decision Records (ADRs).
  • Improve existing systems: Deliver customer-facing features and fixes across legacy platforms, working with technologies such as C#, PHP and Python where needed.
  • Support platform migration: Help migrate agencies and their data from existing systems to the new platform, ensuring data integrity and reliable cutovers.
  • Take ownership in production: Monitor deployments, investigate logs and errors, and resolve issues using the team’s observability tools.
  • Maintain high engineering standards: Write meaningful automated tests, review pull requests, and contribute to clear, maintainable code.
  • Collaborate across the product lifecycle: Work closely with the team on requirements, technical design, implementation, testing and release.

Our technology stack

We’re consolidating towards a TypeScript-first architecture while continuing to support our existing platforms.

  • Languages and runtime: TypeScript (strict mode), Node.js and pnpm workspaces with Turborepo.
  • Backend: Fastify, tRPC and Zod for internal APIs, and REST/OpenAPI for partner integrations.
  • Data: Aurora PostgreSQL Serverless v2, with pg-boss for background jobs and event processing.
  • Frontend: React, shadcn/ui and Radix UI for back-office tools, partner portals and tenant applications.
  • Mobile: React Native with Expo.
  • Cloud and infrastructure: AWS ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3 and CloudFront, with infrastructure managed through AWS CDK.
  • CI/CD and quality: GitHub Actions, Vitest, Playwright and Docker.
  • Observability: Pino, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Loki and Tempo.
  • Architecture: Hexagonal architecture (ports and adapters), with a focus on separation of concerns and testability.

The existing environment also includes .NET, PHP, Python, Angular, Laravel, MySQL, RabbitMQ, TypeORM, Valkey and DynamoDB. You won’t need expertise in every technology, but you should be comfortable working across an evolving codebase.

What we're looking for

  • Around 4–6 years of commercial software engineering experience, building and maintaining production web applications.
  • Strong hands-on experience with back-end technologies, including strict typing and runtime schema validation.
  • Solid experience with React, building complete product features and user-facing applications.
  • Good SQL and relational database skills, ideally with PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations and query optimisation.
  • Experience designing and implementing APIs that other services, teams or external partners depend on.
  • An understanding of modular architecture, separation of concerns and maintainable code design.
  • Experience writing automated tests, reviewing pull requests and debugging issues in production.
  • A practical approach to problem-solving and the ability to work effectively with existing or legacy code.
  • Clear communication skills, including writing useful technical documentation, pull request descriptions and code comments.
  • A strong sense of ownership: you care about how your changes behave in production, not just whether they pass CI.

    Nice to have
  • Production experience with C#/.NET, PHP or Python.
  • AWS experience, particularly ECS, Aurora and Lambda.
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience with AWS CDK or Terraform.
  • Experience with monorepos, pnpm workspaces, Turborepo or enforced module boundaries.
  • Experience with messaging systems and background job processing, such as RabbitMQ or pg-boss.
  • Familiarity with React Native and Expo.
  • Experience with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana and Loki.
  • Experience migrating data between systems while keeping existing platforms operational.
  • Background in property technology, lettings, insurance or fintech, including Open Banking, KYC or tenant referencing.
  • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools as part of everyday development.

Why us?

  • Additional private health and dental care
  • Flexible working hours, either from our new modern office, from home, or even remotely
  • Co-funded MultiSport Card to enjoy hundreds of indoor, outdoor, and wellness activities
  • Co-funded Transportation card
  • Having the great opportunity to work with passionate, knowledgeable, and experienced people, where your opinion is highly valued
  • High team autonomy to make a significant impact on the company
  • Part of a strong local tech community with lots of technology events
  • Keep up-to-date with weekly company clubs, initiatives & regular teambuildings
  • Self-development annual budget to spend on books, courses, and events
