About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior QA Engineer to join a small, collaborative team at a UK-based PropTech company developing innovative software solutions for the property and lettings market. You’ll help build a brand-new platform from the ground up, using modern technologies to transform the rental industry through automation. This is an opportunity to make a real impact on the product, contribute to architectural decisions, and take ownership of features from design through to production.
The team values clean code, collaboration and continuous improvement. Every change goes through a feature branch and pull request, with work tracked in Jira and commits following Conventional Commits. AI-assisted development is also part of the everyday workflow, supported by clear engineering standards.
What you’ll do
- Own quality across the platform end to end, testing user workflows, APIs, database interactions and integrations.
- Design, write and maintain automated tests for web applications and APIs, using Playwright and Vitest.
- Build and maintain reliable end-to-end, integration and regression test suites that catch issues before they reach production.
- Test features across the new platform, including React screens, TypeScript services, PostgreSQL data models and internal and partner APIs.
- Work within a modular monolith and a wider ecosystem of services, understanding module boundaries and identifying risks across integrations.
- Test data migrations between existing platforms and the new platform, validating data integrity, consistency and completeness before and during cutover.
- Investigate defects across frontend, backend, databases and infrastructure, using logs and observability tools to identify root causes.
- Support production releases by validating deployments, monitoring application behaviour and helping investigate issues when something breaks.
- Review requirements, technical designs and pull requests, identifying edge cases and potential quality risks early in the development process.
- Work closely with developers and product stakeholders to define acceptance criteria, improve testability and prevent recurring defects.
- Use AI-assisted development and testing tools where they help improve coverage, speed up feedback and reduce repetitive work.
What we're looking for
- Commercial experience in QA, test automation, ideally with 3+ years testing production web applications.
- Strong experience with automated testing and the ability to choose the right approach for unit, integration, API and end-to-end tests.
- Experience with Playwright or a comparable modern browser automation framework.
- Familiarity with TypeScript and JavaScript, with the ability to write maintainable test code and understand application behaviour.
- Experience testing REST APIs and working with HTTP, authentication, request validation and error handling.
- Solid SQL skills and an understanding of relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL. You can validate data, investigate inconsistencies and verify migrations.
- Experience testing complex business workflows across frontend, backend and external integrations.
- A systematic approach to investigating defects, identifying root causes and reproducing issues reliably.
- An understanding of CI/CD pipelines and how automated tests fit into development and release workflows.
- The ability to assess risk, identify edge cases and prioritise testing based on business impact.
- Confidence working with developers to improve testability and prevent defects rather than simply report them.
- Willingness to work with legacy code and applications built in different languages, including C#, PHP and Python.
- Clear written communication in bug reports, test documentation, pull requests and tickets.
